Castellina Marittima
Castellina Marittima is a municipality with 2046 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pisa in the Tuscany region of Italy.
Geography
The municipality covers 46 km ². It is located about 70 km southwest of Florence and 35 km south of Pisa in the wine region Montescudaio.
The districts include Le Badie, Malandrone and Terriccio.
The neighboring municipalities are Cecina ( LI), Chianni, Riparbella, Rosignano (LI) and Santa Luce.
History
First mentioned in writing the place was in 1200, when he wrote his constitution. Called sub Ugo di Giovanni della Gherardescas ( Earl of Montescudaio and Vicar of Pisa and the Maremma ), Bacarozzo, rebelled in 1345 against the rule of the place of Pisa. The uprising was put down, and the place remained until 1406 under the rule of Pisa. On October 25, 1406, the Municipality of Florence was subjected. On March 17, 1628 Ferdinand II gave the place to feudalism to Lorenzo de ' Medici ( 1599-1648 ). The abolition of feudalism in 1776 by Leopold II, the city again became part of the Duchy of Tuscany. After the end of the Napoleonic occupation of 1815, the town was under the Duchy of Florence again until the unification of Italy, he was assigned to the new province of Pisa.
