Capannoli

Capannoli is a municipality in the Province of Pisa in the Italian region of Tuscany with 6315 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

The village is located about 25 km southeast of Pisa and 50 km southwest of Florence on the river Era and the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, GR 1650 / G.

To the hamlets counts Santo Pietro Belvedere.

Capannoli borders the municipalities Casciana Terme Lari, Palaia, Volterra, Ponsacco, Pontedera and Terricciola.

Culture and sights

Since the 13th century Capannoli was a stronghold of the Gherardescas family. At the site of the castle today is the late baroque villa Bourbon del Monte, formerly Vila Baciocchi.

Churches

  • Santuario della Santissima Annunziata - Church baroque-style (1714 ). The Campanile dates from 1837.
  • Chiesa di San Bartolomeo - parish church with origins in the 14th century, the mid-19th century completely transformed.
  • Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo ( Belvedere) - 17th century, today's appearance by conversion to 1958.
