Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina

Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina is a municipality with 2284 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pisa in the Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 27 km ². It is located about 90 km south-west of the regional capital Florence and 90 km southeast of the provincial capital of Pisa. It is part of the Comunità montana Alta Val di Cecina and is not far from the valley of the devil in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone E, 2144 GR / G.

The municipality is divided into two geographically independent areas that are separated from the communities and Pomarance Radicondoli (SI). Here, the district of Monte Pisano is separated from the main town in the northeast. The border with Volterra is located just 45 meters away, lying on the floor of the municipality of Casole d' Elsa (SI).

Through the municipal area the rivers Cecina flow (3 km from a total of 78 km) and Cornia (8 km from 49 km) and the Torrenti Pavone (9 km from 32 km) and Possera (4 km of 18 km).

Among the districts ( Frazioni ) include Lagoni del Sasso ( 449 m, ​​about 120 inhabitants), Leccia (370 m, about 20 inhabitants), Monte Pisano ( 494 m, about 110 inhabitants) and Sasso Pisano (210 m, ca. 500 inhabitants).

History
