Chianni

Chianni is a municipality with 1436 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pisa in the Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers about 60 square kilometers. It is located about 60 km southwest of Florence and 35 km southeast of Pisa. Some districts lie along the rivers Era and Sterza.

The districts include Garetto, I Gulfi, La Fornace, La Pescaia, La Pieve, Rivalto and Sassi Bianchi. The approximately 1 km to the north district Rivalto with about 100 inhabitants, is the largest district.

The neighboring municipalities are Casciana Terme Lari, Castellina Marittima, Lajatico, Riparbella, Santa Luce and Terricciola.

History

Henry VI. assumed the place in 1186 to the Bishop of Volterra. Just seven years later, the place went to the Republic of Pisa. 1288, the place assumed again the Bishop of Volterra, Lapo di Rosso de ' Rossi, but in the same year the city of Pisa, under the command of Guido da Montefeltro was recaptured. 1325 on the coveted place against Pisa and was then struck shortly afterwards by Charles IV again Volterra. On March 6, 1406, a site was occupied with his neighbors and now a district Rivalto of the Republic of Florence.

Attractions

  • Chiesa di San Donato, the Church in the main town, which was completely restored in 1812. The exact origin of the church year is unknown, ca 15th century. Contains the Ventura Salimbeni attributed to work in Sant'Antonio di Gesù Bambino Adoration.
  • Santuario della Madonna del Carmine in the district Rivalto, sanctuary from the 18th century, the work contains Madonna del Carmine by Carlo Dolci.
