Cercado is a province in the central part of the Bolivian department of Cochabamba.

Location

The province is one of sixteen provinces in the department of Cochabamba. It is bordered to the west by the province Quillacollo, to the south by the province Capinota, on the southeast by the province Esteban Arce, and on the east by the province of Chapare.

The province extends approximately between 17 ° 17 'and 17 ° 32' south latitude and 66 ° 29 ' and 66 ° 42 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 22 kilometers from north to south, 28 km.

Population

The population of the province of Cercado has risen in the past two decades by about half:

36.7 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 92.9 percent. (1992)

98.0 percent of the population speak Spanish, Quechua 51.5 percent, and 8.6 percent Aymara. (1992)

8.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 25.0 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

86.8 percent of the population are Catholics, 8.9 percent are Protestant (1992).
