Capinota Province

Capinota is a province in the southwest part of the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is one of sixteen provinces in the department of Cochabamba. It is bounded on the northwest by the province Quillacollo, on the southwest by the province Arque, to the south by the department of Potosí, to the east by the province of Esteban Arce, and to the north by the province of Cercado.

The province extends approximately between 17 ° 28 'and 17 ° 56' south latitude and 66 ° 33 ' and 66 ° 49 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 25 kilometers from north to south, 55 km.

Population

The population of the province Capinota has risen in the past two decades by about a fifth:

44.8 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 67.5 percent. (1992)

61.9 percent of the population speak Spanish, Quechua 96.2 percent, and 1.0 percent Aymara. (1992)

61.5 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 72.0 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

91.2 percent of the population are Catholics, 7.3 percent are Protestant (1992).

The Capinota province is divided into three Municipalities:

  • Municipio Capinota - 16,945 inhabitants ( 2001)
  • Municipio Santiváñez - 6,402 inhabitants
  • Municipio Sicaya - 2,235 inhabitants
