Quillacollo Province

Quillacollo is a province in the southwest part of the Bolivian department of Cochabamba.

Location

The province is one of sixteen provinces in the department of Cochabamba. It is bordered to the west by the province Capinota, on the southwest by the Potosí Department in the south east of the province Mizque, on the east by the province Punata, in the northeast of the province of Germán Jordán, and in the north to the Chapare province and the province of Cercado.

The province extends from about 17 ° 03 'and 17 ° 42' south latitude and 66 ° 02 ' and 66 ° 30 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 30 kilometers from north to south, 75 km.

Population

The population of the province Quillacollo has risen in the past two decades to more than double:

41.2 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 86.1 percent. (1992)

90.2 percent of the population speak Spanish, 71.9 percent Quechua, Aymara and 0.6 percent. (1992)

22.5 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 53.0 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

88.0 percent of the population are Catholics, 8.3 percent are Protestant (1992).

The Quillacollo province is divided into five municipios:

  • Municipio Quillacollo - 104 206 inhabitants
  • Sipe Sipe Municipio - 31 337 inhabitants
  • Municipio Tiquipaya - 37,791 inhabitants
  • Municipio Vinto - 31,489 inhabitants
