Chyormoz

Tschormos (Russian Чёрмоз, also Tschermos ) is a small town in the Perm region (Russia) with 3861 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the western flank of the Middle Urals about 100 km north of the regional capital of Perm on the right bank of the Kamastausee here to pent-up Kama, at the mouth of the eponymous river Tschormos.

History

Tschormos was 1701 ( according to other sources 1761) in connection with the establishment of the copper smelter Tschormosski Zavod, which was later converted into an ironworks. 1943 was the site of a town.

When filling the Kamastausees to 1958 a part of the city and with it the iron works was flooded; the population declined considerably.

Culture and sights

Despite the flooding of part of the city's various buildings of the 19th century have been preserved, the Nativity Church ( церковь Рождества Богородицы / Tserkov Roschdestwa Bogoroditsy ) from 1836 with remarkable clock tower and the building of the factory administration of 1812.
