Collonges-la-Rouge

Collonges- la- Rouge ( Occitan Colonjas ) is a commune with 475 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Limousin region in the Correze on the western edge of the Massif Central. Residents Collongeois call themselves. Collonges- la- Rouge is one of the most beautiful and picturesque villages in France.

Geography

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 40 kilometers north-east of Brive -la -Gaillarde about 20 kilometers north-west and Beaulieu -sur -Dordogne approximately 22 kilometers southeast.

The main town of the canton Meyssac Meyssac is only two kilometers away. The municipality is located in a picturesque setting in the border region of Limousin, Quercy and Auvergne.

History

Collonges la Rouge was an old relay station on the Way of St. James and a bailiwick of the Viscount of Turenne. The architecture of the houses in Collonges -la- Rouge shows high fidelity, the French rural architecture of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the village center, the oldest house in the village says, the Maison de la Sirene from the 16th century. From the 12th century the Church of St. Pierre, whose Romanesque- limousinischer tower is still largely in its original condition originates.
