Corey Hirsch

Corey Hart ( born July 1, 1972 in Medicine Hat, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and is currently active as goalkeeping coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League. During his playing career he played for the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League and the Kassel Huskies in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Career

Corey Hart began his career in 1988 at the Kamloops Blazers of the Canadian Junior Football League WHL. After he was still employed in his first season as a substitute goalkeeper, he evolved from his second season as one of the best young goalkeeper. After he won in the 1989/90 season the first President's Cup and had participated Cup finals with the Blazers at Memorial, he was appointed to the WHL West Second All-Star Team. Nevertheless, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 by any team.

But even in the 1990/91 season he was able to draw attention to themselves, won 26 of his 38 games and was elected to the West First All-Star Team. The New York Rangers finally chose him then in the eighth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1991 at position 169 from. But deer still remained another year in the WHL and celebrated the most successful season of his junior career. Again he won with the Blazers the President's Cup and could this time the Memorial Cup win. He was then awarded the Del Wilson Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the WHL as well as CHL Goaltender of the Year and was re-elected to the West First All-Star Team. In addition, the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the best goalkeeper came of the Memorial Cup tournament as well as the appointment to the Memorial Cup Tournament All-Star Team.

As impressive ended his junior career, so well started his professional career. Although Hirsch played in the 1992/93 season only four games with the New York Rangers, but for their farm team, the Binghamton Rangers, he ran in the American Hockey League ( AHL ) on top form. Out of 46 games where he won 35 with only four defeats. In the episode he got together with goalkeeper colleague Boris Rousson the Harry " Hap " Holmes Memorial Award for the fewest goals and was even with the Aldege " Baz " Bastien Award as the best goalkeeper and the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as the best rookie of the League excellent and elected to the AHL First All -Star Team.

The 1993/94 season deer spent mostly in the Canadian National Team in preparation for the Olympic Winter Games in 1994, which at that time still no NHL players were released. Hirsch went as a goalkeeper in the Olympic ice hockey tournament and led the team to the finals, where they were inferior to Sweden until the shootout.

In the fall of 1994, he returned to the Binghamton Senators and denied without being called once in the NHL squad the season. Instead, he was transferred to the end of the season on the Vancouver Canucks. There, he shared during the 1995/96 season the position in the goal with Kirk McLean, but showed better performance than its six years older compatriot, and the Canucks put on him in the playoffs, but where they failed in the first round. Even during the season, he was transferred in March 2000 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. But even there he got no chance in the NHL, and the Mighty Ducks did not renew his contract expiring at end of season.

During the summer of 2000, he was obliged by any team, and it was not until the 2000/ 01 season was already running, the Washington Capitals took him in late October under contract. But even here, he spent most of the time at the farm teams and did not come in the NHL over a 20-minute deployment beyond. When his contract expired in the summer of 2001, he spent the following season in the AHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms and the Portland Pirates.

In August 2002, he again received a NHL contract with the Dallas Stars, spent most of the time but again in the unterklassigen AHL before he came to two inserts in the NHL in March 2003. When his expiring contract was not renewed again and he found a place even when no other team in the NHL, Hirsch went to Sweden in November 2003 and played in the Elitserien for Timrå IK. He left Sweden but after just five appearances at the end of the season again and signed the Lausanne Hockey Club in Switzerland, for which he never played a game. He went a few months later to the Kassel Huskies of the German Hockey League. But even there he spent no positive season as the club athletic relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, after the license revocation against Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg but were allowed to stay in the German top flight.

Hirsch opted for a new change of club and returned to Sweden, where he worked for the Malmö Redhawks in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan played 2005/ 06 and as a goalkeeper helped with good benefits to the rise in the Elitserien.

Corey Hart ended his playing career and then returned to North America. There he was at the Canadian Hockey Association Hockey Canada worked as goalkeeping consultant and was responsible for the gatekeepers of the junior national teams. At the Junior World Championships in 2007 and 2008, the U20 national team of Canada could each win the gold medal. The first title Goalkeeper Carey Price, the second time keeper Steve Mason was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the World Cup.

In September 2008, the Toronto Maple Leafs him committed as a goalkeeper coach.
