Critérium du Dauphiné

The Critérium du Dauphiné stage race (formerly Criterium du Dauphine Libere ) applies in addition to the Tour de Suisse as the most important preparation race for the Tour de France. It is a demanding eight-day tour of the French Dauphiné. In addition to the usual individual time trial prologue as a mountain time trial often difficult part of the program of the Dauphiné. The Dauphiné was one of the newly introduced in 2005 UCI ProTour, a series of the most important bike race of the year. Since 2011, the race is part of the follow-up series UCI World Tour.

The race is named after the organizing Le Dauphiné Libéré. 2010, the race was taken over by the ASO and in its name since no longer the Libéré. Despite its name, it is the Critérium du Dauphiné is not a criterion for the purposes of the regulations of the International Cycling Union UCI.
