Background

The album was released on November 22, 1988 as a double LP, double cassette and CD, as well as 1992 as VHS. It was missing on the LP the play Us and Them, while the pieces Signs of Life, On the Run and One Slip are represented on the VHS.

Although David Gilmour stated in a radio interview from 1992, Delicate Sound of Thunder contains no studio overdubs, Comfortably Numb was decorated according to a statement by the studio engineer Buford Jones subsequently with an acoustic guitar and some harmonies replaced by studio retakes. Richard Wright took his vocals in Us and Them on again and Sam Brown replaced the background singer Rachel Fury with Comfortably Numb.

For the record cover was - as with most previous albums - Storm Thorgerson responsible.

Delicate Sound of Thunder reached # 11 on the Billboard 200 and received to date, three platinum records.
