Doberschau-Gaußig

Doberman -Gaußig, Upper Sorbian Dobruša - Huska, is a named after the two places Doberschau and Gaußig municipality in the district of Bautzen in Upper Lusatia in Saxony.

Geography

Doberman show is about four, Gaußig about 9 km southwest of the district town of Bautzen on the northern edge of the Lusatian mountain country.

The municipality is bordered by Goda and Bautzen in the north, Obergurig in the east, in the southeast Wilthen, Neukirch in the south and Schmölln- Putzkau and Demitz - Thumitz in the West. All surrounding communities include the district of Bautzen.

History

The place Doberschau was first mentioned in 1223 in the Upper Lusatian border certificate. South of Doberschau is located on the Spree, the so-called jump, the sooner the population served as Wallburg as a refuge. You could be well defended, since it is limited in the north by the steep and rocky valley of the River Spree. Remains of the walls are still recognizable today. The stories say that an underground tunnel should have existed from the hill to the old manor in Doberschau. Whether the hill with the 1007 first mentioned castellum Trebista can be identified, is controversial. On this mention of the 1000 year celebration of the place -based in 2007.

During the Reformation, there was a long-standing dispute over the parish Gaußig. The place was owned by the Catholic cathedral chapter Bautzen, the right of presentation to the parish but had the Protestant pastor of Goda. The latter was supported by the Electors of Saxony, to whose territory Goda, but not Gaussig, belonged since 1559. The Protestants were finally able to prevail finally in the 1560s.

Economy

Is known of the district Gnaschwitz primarily by the explosive Gnaschwitz that manufactures explosives for civilian and military use around the world today. Attractions

In Gaußig is Schloss Gaussig, a Palladian umformtes baroque castle with rhododendron.
