Geography

Geographical location

Dürbheim lies at the foot of the Swabian Alb in 677-973 meters altitude, about nine kilometers north of the county town of Tuttlingen. In the east, surrounded by the forests of Albtrauf to new development areas draw a semi-circle around the center of the older industrialized community. The hamlet Risiberg on the Swabian Alb already belongs to the Great Heuberg. The community is located directly on the main European watershed Rhine-Danube. Here is the source of the lazy stream that flows through the Elta into the Danube, less than a mile north rises the primary, which opens in Rottweil in the Neckar.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Böttingen, to the east by Mahlstetten, on the southeast by Mülheim an der Donau and the district Nendingen at Tuttlingen, to the south by Wurmlingen and Riet -Weilheim and to the northwest by Balgheim. This Dürbheim affect the districts of Wurmlingen and Mülheim only at a single point in Ursental.

Structure

The municipality includes the village Dürbheim Dürbheim and the hamlet Risiberg. Within the area are the disposed castles Burghaldenstrasse and Wallburg.

History

Dürbheim was first mentioned in the year 786. A recent aufgefundener small burial ground belonged to a separate estate of a nobleman, and traces of a small wooden church dating from around 700 indicate an earlier settlement. The ruin Burghaldenstrasse Dürbheim lies on the boundary.

Policy

The municipality is a member of the Agreed administrative community of the city Spaichingen.

Partnerships

Since the village festival in 2006 Dürbheim and Fertőd are partner communities.

Culture and sights

Dürbheim is located on the Swabian Alb Route, which passes by many sights. The municipality is the Tourist " Donaubergland " connected.

Natural Monuments

To the west of Dürbheim directly to the European watershed lies the nature reserve Dürbheimer Moor, the headwaters of the lazy stream, a bog with an exceptional botanical and zoological diversity, which also includes the Egelsee. In addition to the typical bog plant community here can observe some rare species of birds.

Sports club

The sports club Dürbheim consists of several departments. The most successful to date, the department rings. The Dürbheimer Ringer managed in the 2008/2009 season promotion to the national league Württemberg. Personalities

  • The most famous son Dürbheims was Bishop John I (1265-1328) of Dirpheim, of the court of King Albrecht I. in 1300 was court secretary and chancellor in 1305 and was ordained a bishop. As Bishop of Strasbourg (1306-1328) he was the leading sponsor the construction of the local cathedral.
