Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Danube- forest in the southern Bavarian forest between the valleys of the Ilz and Wolfsteiner Ohe. Fuersteneck forms the southernmost municipality in the district and borders the district of Passau. Fuersteneck is surrounded by valleys. After Passau, the distance 22 km, according to Forest Churches 15 km, to Freyung 18 km, 20 km to Grafenau and the Federal Highway 3 (exit Aicha vorm Wald ) 23 km away.

History

The former Pfleggericht of the Prince-Bishopric of Passau was secularized in 1803 with the majority of the high pin and the territory in favor of Ferdinand of Tuscany. Castle Fuersteneck

The Fuersteneck castle was built around 1190 by the Prince-Bishop of Passau Wolfger of Erla as a border fortification against the Bavarian dukes. 1570 there was a renovation under Prince-Bishop Urban of separating stream. 1745 was under Cardinal Joseph Dominic von Lamberg castle chapel. 1803 the castle fell to the Bavarian state and in 1814 it was sold to a former monk.
