Gaal is a municipality with 1445 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district court district Mur and Jews Castle in Styria.

Geography

Geographical Location

Gaal is located about 14 km northwest of Knittel field. The municipality is located in the Lower Tauern. The municipality, which called Gaal, includes the massif of Pletzen, the two surrounding valleys of Gaalbaches and Ingering stream, and the southern slopes of the Alps Seckauer. The highest elevations are the 2417 m high main vulture, the 2416 meter high Reichhart, the 2,397 m high Seckauer tines (all Seckauer Alps) and the 2345 m high Pletzen. The deepest point is about 750 meters, where leaves the village in the southeast of the Ingering Bach.

History

To 760, a church was founded ( ecclesia ad undrimas ) in Ingering by Bishop Modestus. 860 gave the Emperor the Archbishop of Salzburg, a good on the Ingering, the present village of Bishop Field.

In a document for the pin Seckau the name Gaal ( trigewl ) was used in 1171 for the first time. For the equipment of the company founded in 1218 Seckau diocese also 30 Forest Huben were used in Gaal. 1273 also reached castle mountain water from Salzburg to the diocese Seckau. From the resident on this castle Ministerialengeschlecht the Gaaler also came Ottokar († 1322), the author of the Styrian rhyming chronicle, which tells the history of the empire from 1246 to 1309 in 100,000 verses. 1317 was for the first time a pastor Gaal mentioned, a year later directly the Church of St. Peter.

1480, the church was destroyed by the Turks in Gaal. 1514 to 1518 there was a short time silver mining at high Reichart.

1770 house numbers and Werbbezirke were introduced. From the latter, the still existing cadastral emerged a little later. 1820 were destroyed in a fire, the church and the majority of the place.

1844 came the rule and Castle Mountain water to Maximilian Sessler, who converted the castle in its present form.

After the abolition of manorial 1848, the municipality Gaal was 1849/50 built.

Population

The municipality had 2001 1502 inhabitants according to the census. 97.7 % of the population had Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church to 93.9 % of the population known to the Protestant 1.5%, 2.9 % had no religious persuasion.

Also worth mentioning is the varied social life in the community, 17 clubs and groups cover a wide variety of interests, from music to sports, volunteer fire department and tradition through to Perchtenlauf, from.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 28 workplaces with 89 employees in the community as well as 450 commuters and 34 commuters. There are 123 agricultural and forestry enterprises ( of which 63 are in the main acquisition ), which together manage 19,734 ha ( 1999). Of this total, 1,911 ha of agricultural land, forest 10,987 ha and 2,467 ha on pastures.

In the Gaal there are some tourism (177 beds ). In winter there is a small ski resort in summer, especially hiking and climbing tourism.

In the village there is a primary school.

The transport infrastructure is via the country roads Gaalerstraße L 515 and L 517 Seckauerstraße

The council consists of 15 members and has been working for the municipal elections in 2010 mandatary of the following parties together:

Friedrich Fledl since May 22, 2012 Mayor of Gaal. His predecessor, Ing Harald hit came allegations of personal enrichment back in connection with commission payments by 30 April 2012.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 August 1968. Blazon (Coat of Arms description): " In a water- colored by a wave beams from blue to black divided shield above two by a silver pewter wall associated gequaderte, crenellated silver towers, down a golden slant right bar. "
