Gössweinstein is a market in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim with about 4100 inhabitants and lies in the Franconian Switzerland at the confluence of Wiesentfels, Ailsbach and Püttlach. Strikingly, the castle and the Sanctuary Basilica.

Geographical location

Gössweinstein located in the heart of the Franconian Switzerland, in the midst of the city triangle of Bamberg, Bayreuth and Nuremberg.

Flora

The Gößweinsteiner Whitebeam (Sorbus pulchra ) is a nature reserve and is a so-called endemic plant only in Gössweinstein and its immediate surroundings.

History

The Goswinesteyn castle was first documented in 1076. Before 1102, the castle fell to the Bishopric of Bamberg and was from 1348 to 1780 the seat of a Bailiwick Office of the bishops of Bamberg.

In the year 1525 it came in the Peasants' War destruction and subsequent reconstruction. In the Second Margrave War 1553 Gössweinstein was destroyed a second time and rebuilt. The Bamberg Prince- Bishop Friedrich Carl von Schönborn ( reigned 1729-1746 ) rose Gössweinstein to the market. With the secularization of the year 1803, the territory of the Bishopric of Bamberg came to Bavaria.

On 1 July 1972, Gössweinstein of the dissolved district Pegnitz to the district of Forchheim.

Incorporations

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, the formerly independent communities Behringersmühle, Small Gesee, Stadelhofen, Unterailsfeld and a portion of the dissolved municipality Tüchersfeld were incorporated ( Hühnerloh and Kohlenstein ) in the market Gössweinstein on 1 January 1972. On January 1, 1974, added Leutzdorf. Morschreuth and of the dissolved municipality Wichsenstein the places Wichsenstein, Altenthal, Hardt, Saddle castle and Ühleinshof followed on 1 May 1978.

The market council of Gössweinstein has 16 members plus the full-time mayor Georg Lang (CSU ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: In gold on green to red rod Dreienberg a green vine with two blue grapes and two green leaves. The coat of arms guidance is occupied for Gössweinstein since the 17th century. Following local government reform in 1978, the market town council has decided to take over the historical coat of arms of Gössweinstein unchanged.

Economy and infrastructure

Transportation

The entire market area of Gössweinstein part of the regional transport system Nürnberg GmbH (abbreviated: VGN ). There are several regular bus services to surrounding towns and cities.

Railway

The market Gössweinstein is located on the railway line Forchheim Behringersmühle. During the portion of Forchheim is to Ebermannstadt still served by trains of the agilis traffic mbH, the section Ebermannstadt has been decommissioned by Behringersmühle on May 30, 1976 to the passenger by the German railway. However, there is the steam train Franconian Switzerland continues a museum operation, which is carried out above all in the summer months. On the track itself are the railway stations and the terminal Gössweinstein Behringersmühle, which also belongs to the market Gössweinstein. Originally, the track will be built further in the direction of Pott stone or even up Pegnitz from the station Behringersmühle to 1930, where you would have to the main Nuremberg- Bayreuth can connect. The nearest train stations to the S -Bahn Nürnberg located in Forchheim and Kersbach.

Road

Several state highways make the connection to the surrounding villages and towns safe. The market Gössweinstein itself is well connected by several roads. The next federal highway B470 leads through the district Behringersmühle. The nearest motorways are the A73 towards Bamberg and Erlangen, and the A9 towards Bayreuth and Nuremberg.

Gössweinstein located in the Franconian Switzerland on the Wiesenttal. The city is located in the Northern Crags Frankenjura, numerous hiking and biking trails are also within the city limits.

Structures

  • The pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity with Franciscan monastery was 1730-1739 under Prince-Bishop Friedrich Carl, designed by Balthasar Neumann, who himself oversaw the construction, built by Schönborn. The church was founded in 1948 at the request of the Franciscan Father Prof. Dr. Luchesius Spätling by Pope Pius XII. the papal basilica minor charged (see also Gössweinstein monastery and basilica Gössweinstein ).
