Greve in Chianti

Greve in Chianti is a 31 km south of Florence situated, geographically very big place. The village has about 3000 inhabitants, the entire municipality has 13,866 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Geography

Greve is in area 169 km ² one of the largest municipalities in Italy, is located in the heart of the Chianti region and has since the 13th century one of the main cities of Chianti. It lies on the River Greve. In the southwest of the Pesa touches the municipality.

At its districts include Strada in Chianti, Cintoia Dudda Lucolena, Montefioralle, Panzano in Chianti, San Polo in Chianti, Greve, Passo dei Pecorai, Ferrone, Greti, Chiocchio and Poggio alla Croce.

The neighboring municipalities are Bagno a Ripoli, Castellina in Chianti ( SI), Cavriglia (AR), Figline Valdarno e Incisa, Impruneta, Radda in Chianti ( SI), Rignano sull'Arno, San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Barberino Val d'Elsa.

Greve has a convenient location at the intersection of two roads: the north-south connection from Florence to Siena and the east- west link between the Arno Valley (Val d' Arno ) and the Elsa Valley (Val d' Elsa).

Events and attractions

Each mid-September in Piazza Matteotti a wine fair with the launch of the new Chianti instead ( Rassegna del Chianti Classico ). The Piazza Matteotti is triangular in shape and surrounded by beautiful arcades, where you will find shops and cafes or restaurants. Mainly the production of wine and olive oil production determines the domestic industry. There are also many small craft, some of which still operate in the traditional manner.

The city is a member of Cittaslow, a company incorporated in Italy in 1999 motion to decelerate and increase the quality of life in cities.
