Hallwang

Hallwang is a municipality in the Austrian district of Salzburg with 3947 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). It is located directly on the northern outskirts of the city of Salzburg.

The municipality comprises the following four localities ( in parentheses population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Hallwang ( 1226 )
  • Zilling ( 548)

Parts of Hallwang were incorporated to Salzburg, so Hallwang also forms its own cadastral ( Hallwang II) in Salzburg, Hallwang forms the KG Hallwang I.

History

Today's municipal area was already inhabited in the Neolithic period. Around the year 1000, the town was first mentioned as a locus Haldinwanc documented, from tailings pile, Hang ' with -wang, corridor '. 1858 the Vicariate Hallwang was elevated to parish. 1860, the place was (formerly Salzburg Maria Plain ) connected to the West Railway Station with the Hallwang -Elixhausen and the stop Salzburg - Kasern, which are served by the S2 S-Bahn Salzburg since 2004.

UCI Road World Championships 2006

In the period from 19 to 24 September 2006, the city of Salzburg and its environs was the venue for the Road Cycling Championships. In Hallwang there was this one of the key points in the course as well as a large visitor center, campgrounds and social events. A total of 330,000 spectators were present at this event - many of them in Hallwang.
