Hartwig Steenken

Hartwig Steenken ( born July 23, 1941 in Twist rings; † January 10, 1978 in Hannover ) was a German show jumper.

He is still considered one of the best stylists in the jumping saddle of all time. His greatest successes came together with the mare Simona († 1987), with which he became world champion in Hickstead et al 1974. He formed a dark brown Hanoverian gelding out as a jumper, which was as Deister of the most successful show jumpers in the world after his death under Paul Schockemoehle.

Hartwig Steenken died on January 10, 1978 in the ICU of the Medical School Hannover after he was in Kaltenweide in a coma since a car accident in July 1977.
