HC Dukla Jihlava
HC Dukla Jihlava is a Czech ice hockey club based in Jihlava.
Club history
The HC Dukla Jihlava was founded in 1956 as the Army Sports Club under the name Křídla Vlasti Olomouc and moved in the same year in neighboring Jihlava. In 1957 the club played under the name Dukla Jihlava ASD. Dukla is one of the most successful hockey clubs in the former Czechoslovakia. Especially in the 1970s and 1980s, the club also belonged to the European top. Eleven times the team took the European Cup and arrived eight times the final, a victory, however remained Dukla denied.
The association could therefore be particularly successful because the best Czechoslovak players had to play as part of their army service for the team. After the regime change, this advantage for Dukla Jihlava fell away, but in 1991 the team was the last time Czechoslovakian champion.
In the Czech Extraliga, the highest Czech league, which was formed after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the club was able to keep up with great difficulty until 1999, even once, because the league was increased only by a successful relegation and another time. In the 2003 /04 season Dukla Jihlava made the comeback, but could be just a game year in the Extraliga hold. Since 2005 /06 HC Dukla Jihlava played in the first league, the second division of the Czech Republic.
