Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Weser mountain country between Weseraue and Ithbörde.

Neighboring communities

Heyen is bordered to the northwest and north on the community Emmerthal of the district of Hamelin- Pyrmont, on the east by Hall, on the south by ground Werder and on the southwest by Hehlen.

History

On the first weekend in June 2004 Heyen celebrated its thousand years of existence. Was first documented Heyen 1004 under the name " nurture ". The name changed in 1197 to " Heygen " and already in 1316 in the present notation.

The heap -shaped village complex was early on by the military road Einbeck - cut Hameln. 1759 this street was " very busy ". During this period there was also a customs post here.

Previously Heyen belonged to Brunswick and was up to the introduction of the Reformation in 1569 for Catholics within parish seat. The massive tower over a Romanesque barrel vault, today sacristy, is the oldest part of the church. During renovation work in the 1960s, were Romanesque windows in the choir room and a grave slab from the 12th/13th. Century exposed. A hewn from Weser sandstone baptismal font from 1625 there was also his place.

On the crest of the Holy Mountain, south of Heyen towards the ground Werder, are the 1985 restored ruins of an old church. 1896 three phases from the 11th, 13th and 17th centuries were found during excavations. About 200 meters southeast of the ruin is the "Ring Wall". He is one of the oldest fortifications in the district of Minden wood.
