Geology

The Hochschwabmassiv was repeatedly the scene of huge landslides. Particular mention is that of wild Alps, where about 4000 BC a huge mass of rock from Ebenstein and fire stone broke off and plummeted to the north. In a further consequence, divided the fall mass and thundered as fall rate up to about today's game Alps addition to the Salzatal. Two more landslides there were in prehistoric times in Tragöss (from Messnerin impoundment under the Green Lake and the Trenchtling impoundment under the pastor paints). The Hochschwabmassiv is also rich in caves, so here is the extended Frauenmauer cave.

From Praebichl to Werfen strata pull ( the shale bedrock of Kalkalpendecken ) north of the basin along Aflenzer what this zone gives her mittelgebirgiges relief. From Praebichl runs a vein northeastward, which marks the southern flank of the significant high Schwab Stocks in the headwaters of Laming and Karl Bach. But high tower, and Pribitz Messnerin are pure limestone massifs.

Totally different is the southern part of the group, he is at the core of zentralalpinem crystallin ( paragneiss, Kletschachkogel and Floningmassiv ), and on both sides accompanied by extremely complex zones of old slate, Phorphyroide and limestones that make up the richness of Upper Styria in mineral resources.
