Horton Smith

Horton Smith ( May 22nd, 1908 in Springfield, Missouri, † October 15, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan) was an American professional golfer.

Smith was already at the age of 18 years pro, winning two years later, his first tournament. In its strongest year 1929 he won the PGA TOUR, as well as eight of 22 tournaments and was six times runner-up. Between 1929 and 1937 he played for the United States five times in the Ryder Cup and was defeated there in any game. Smith was 1952-1954 President of the PGA of America and was elected to the "Hall of Fame" in 1958. He died in 1963 of Hodgkin's disease.
