Inge Wersin-Lantschner

Inge Wersin - Lantschner (born 26 January 1905 in Innsbruck, † June 16, 1997 in Innsbruck -born Inge Lantschner ) was an Austrian alpine skier. It was in 1933, World Champion in downhill, slalom and combination and won in previous years, a further three silver medals at the World Championships. 1928 and 1929 it was Austrian Champion in the downhill.

Life

Lantschner was a member of one of the most successful Skifamilien Austria. Together with her ​​younger siblings Hadwig, Otto, Gustav and Gerhard they certain the early 1930s largely international skiing. Since the beginning of her sporting career only a few women's race were held, they often took part with their male colleagues to bed competitions, in which they also won many a time. In addition to skiing, she was also an excellent swimmer and avid climber. She studied Sports at the University of Vienna and became a certified ski and swimming instructor. At the University of Graz, she worked as a physical trainer and gave skiing, swimming and skiing courses.

Initial successes celebrated Lantschner at the Austrian Championships, 1928 and 1929 when she twice won the downhill. In 1930 she was the outstanding runner at the Arlberg - Kandahar race in St. Anton, where they won all three competitions with victories in downhill, slalom and combined. In the winter of 1931 she decided all three races on snow mountain for himself and won the departure of Schladming. At the first World Ski Championships in Switzerland Murren, she won the silver medal in the slalom after the British Esmé MacKinnon. On the descent, she was eighth. Following her marriage to a notary, she joined from 1932 onwards under the double name Wersin - Lantschner. At the World Cup 1932 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, she won behind the South Tyrolean Paula Wiesinger the silver medal in the downhill and with the sixth place in the slalom also the silver medal in the combination.

The greatest success of her career was celebrating Wersin - Lantschner 1933, when the World Cup was held in her home town of Innsbruck. As the first female athlete, she managed to win the gold medal in all three competitions discharged. In downhill skiing they had the second-placed Swiss Nini Zogg over 20 seconds behind, even in slalom she came projection with nearly eight seconds to the Briton Helen Boughton -Leigh which she also won superior to the combination to the finish.

At the height of her career Wersin - Lantschner decided to step up to take care of her private life and started nurmehr isolated on race. After the birth of her first child, she ended her career completely.
