James F. O'Connor

James Francis O'Connor ( born May 7, 1878 in California Junction, Harrison County, Iowa; † January 15, 1945 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1945 he represented the state of Montana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

James O'Connor went through the regular school system of Iowa. Then he studied until 1904 at the University of Nebraska law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began in Livingston, Montana to work in his new profession. In his new home O'Connor also dealt with the animal husbandry and was active in the banking sector. In 1912 he became a judge in the Sixth District of Montana Law.

Political career

O'Connor was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1917 to 1918 he was a member and chairman of the House of Representatives from Montana and 1918 he was an advisor to the Federal Trade Commission in Washington. For some years he was also a member of the school board in Park County. In the congressional elections of 1936 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from the March 4, 1937 Roy E. Ayers. After he was re-elected in subsequent years each, he retained his seat in Congress until his death in 1945. Meanwhile, O'Connor was chairman of the Indian Committee. His mandate was made after a by-election in June 1945 Wesley A. D' Ewart.
