Jijona/Xixona
Xixona ( Jijona Spanish ) is a city in the Valencian Community, belonging to the province of Alicante in Spain. It is located about 20 km north of Alicante.
History
Is first mentioned in writing in the contract of Xixona Almizra from March 26, 1244 between Alfonso X of Castile, nicknamed the way, Jaime I of Aragon, called the Conqueror. However, there are indications of first human settlement as early as the Bronze Age (2000-1300 BC).
Specialty
The Turron de Xixona is known (not to be confused with the eponymous specialty of Alicante), a candy made with almonds, honey, sugar and egg whites.
