John Hanson

John Hanson ( born April 3, 1715 Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, † November 22, 1783 in Prince George's County, Maryland ) was a delegate to the Continental Congress from Maryland.

Because he served from 1781 to 1782 as the first president of the United States in Congress assembled under the Articles of Confederation for a full term of office, he is often referred to as the first president of the United States. With the same office, which was created with the Constitution of the United States of 1787, Hanson's office, however, is not comparable. According to the census of the President of the United States usually begins with George Washington, who was elected as the first after the ratification of the new Constitution in 1789 to this office.
