John O'Connell (Dublin politician)

John Francis O'Connell (Irish Seán Ó Conaill, * January 20, 1927 or 1930 in Dublin, † March 8, 2013 ) was an Irish politician. During his political career, he was only on the Irish Labour Party and later the Fianna Fáil; he was both a deputy in Dáil Éireann Seanad Éireann and Senator in. As a parliamentarian, he served inter alia as Chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of Dáil Éireann; later, he was Minister of Health.

Biography

O'Connell graduated in medicine and worked as a doctor for the Doctorate in medicine.

He began his political career in 1965 when he was first elected as a candidate of the Irish Labour Party in the constituency of Dublin South - West for the Members of Dáil Éireann. In the following elections in 1977, he could defend his seat in this constituency, as well as the resulting from it Ballyfermot Dublin constituency, respectively. Furthermore, in 1979 he was elected to the European Parliament. In 1981, he left after disagreements with the party leadership, the Irish Labour Party and was a candidate in elections to the 22nd Dáil Éireann as an independent candidate in the constituency of Dublin South Central. On June 30, 1981, he was the successor of Mr Padraig Faulkner Chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of Dáil Éireann and then stepped down as a member of the European Parliament. The Office of the Ceann Comhairle he kept during the 23rd Dáil Éireann until 14 December 1982. 1983 he joined the Fianna Fáil.

In the elections to the 25th Dáil Éireann in 1987 he lost and was eliminated from the House of. Instead, he was nominated shortly afterwards by Taoiseach Charles Haughey J. for a seat in Seanad Éireann. This he was a member until 1989, when he was re-elected to the Dáil Éireann. 11 February 1992 to 12 January 1993, he held the post of health minister in the cabinet of Mr. Reynolds. On February 24, 1993, he resigned his parliamentary seat for health reasons.
