Kaunertal

Kaunertal is a municipality with 620 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the homonymous valley in the district of Landeck in Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is part of the judicial district of Landeck.

Geography

The municipality of Kaunertal occupies the entire area of the narrow and barren valley of the same rear and extends into several hamlets and farms along the road through the valley. The main village is at 1287 m Feichtenschlager.

Culture and sights

The Sanctuary Kaltenbrunn is in the front part of the valley at 1260m altitude. In 1272 the Knights Erbo Schenkenberg is said to have built as a penance for a murder a chapel here. The glacier ski resort Kaunertal Glacier ( Kaunertal glacier lift ) in the rear Kaunertal with the development of the Weißseeferners, which had been operational since 1982 on the toll Kaunertal Glacier Road, brought further economic boost for the community.
