Kopeysk

Kopeisk (Russian Копейск ) is a large city with 137 601 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Russia. It is located in the Chelyabinsk region in the southern Urals, located around 10 km from the regional center of Chelyabinsk.

History

Kopeisk emerged in the early 20th century from some neighboring housing estates that were built as part of the development of a coal deposit in 1907. On June 20, 1933 Kopeisk received city rights. The town's name derives from kopi word that literally means " mine " or " deposit" means.

2004 Kopeisk was back to the big city by the inhabitants imputed formally by the re- incorporation of the neighboring and previously the city government, but independent settlements of urban type Gornjak, Baschowo, Starokamyschinsk, Oktyabrsky, Potanino, Schelesnodoroschny and Wachruschewo almost doubled. This property is located outside of the center places had been spun off in the 1980s from the city proper. The current coat of arms dates back to 2002.

Economy

The economic life of Kopeisk is largely determined by the extraction and processing of coal. There are four mines and including a mechanical engineering company that manufactures mainly mining technology.
