Plast (town)

Plast (Russian Пласт ) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast (Russia) with 17,342 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Southern Urals about 130 km southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Chelyabinsk.

Plast Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

In place of the present-day city was a prospector settlement in the mid-19th century when a thick layer of gold-bearing sands was discovered that the Bolshoi was called plast ( Large seam ).

On October 7, 1940, that has now been mining settlements Plast were merged (in place of the former Gold Kotschkar trial pits ), Novotroitsk, Ptschelnik, Wysselki, Aul and more to the city Plast.

Economy

Plast is since the 1860s, the center of gold mining in the Southern Urals. In the area of marble, kaolin and talc also be encouraged. There are also timber industry.
