Minyar

Minjar (Russian Миньяр ) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast (Russia) with 10,194 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the western flank of the Southern Urals about 360 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Chelyabinsk on Sim, a right tributary of the opening into the Kama Belaya.

Minjar belongs to Rajon Ascha.

The city lies on the southern section of the Trans-Siberian Railway Moscow - Samara Chelyabinsk - Omsk ( 1745 line kilometers from Moscow). A few kilometers south of the city runs the M5 highway Moscow - Chelyabinsk.

History

Minjar arose in 1771 in connection with the construction of the ironworks Minjarski Zavod. The plant was put into operation in 1784 and was the late 18th / early 19th century, a major supplier of roof sheets in the central provinces of Russia. On 14 May 1943, the site received under the present name of a town.

Culture and sights

In the city center a church have been preserved from the late 18th century and monuments of industrial architecture from the 19th century.

Economy

In Minjar there are two large gravel quarries and a screw factory.
