Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat

Kotkan Työväen Palloilijat (short KTP Kotka ) is a ball sport club from the south-eastern Finnish town of Kotka. The club won in 1951 and 1952, the Finnish football championship four times and the FA Cup. The basketball team of the club won the Finnish championship six times.

Football

The club was founded in 1927. As a member of the Workers' Sports Federation TUL, the teams initially did not play in the leagues of the national sports federations. 1937, 1939 and 1947, won the football championship of the KTP TUL. 1947 played the best two teams in the SPL and the TUL from a common final round of the Finnish championship. This KTP finished third. As of 1948, the TUL - clubs playing in the league system of SPL. In the first season in the Mestaruussarja KTP was ninth of 16 teams, and thus managed to avoid relegation. This was followed by a gradual improvement that culminated in the two championships of 1951 and 1952. After that remained KTP to 1958 class before the first descent followed in the Second Division. After the Cup victories in 1958 and 1961 KTP rose again in 1962 to the Mestaruussarja. With the young Arto Tolsa a real guarantee of success came from his own youth in the team. In 1964, he scored 26 goals in 22 games and thus scorer. KTP reached third place in the league. In addition, the club reached 1966 to 1968, three times in a row, the final of the Finnish football Cup. 1967 KTP won the final 2-0 against Lahti Reipas. 1968 moved Tolsa in the Belgian league and already the following year KTP rose last but one again in the second division. After three seasons in the second division even followed the relegation to the third tier. 1977 and 1978 increased KTP but twice in a row and was again top notch. In this third phase of excellence, which reached from 1979 to 1983, KTP again won the Finnish Cup and qualified it for the Europa Cup Winners' Cup. There KTP difference but in the first round already. In 1983, the relegation to the second division, and only a year later the relegation to the third tier. The team took almost ten years until it was second-rate again. Once there KTP missed several times just to climb up this 1998 but succeeded once again. Basketball

The basketball team of the club appears under the name KTP Basket since 1927 in competitions at. Since 1957, the team is consistently in the top Finnish basketball league, the Korisliiga represented. The 2012/13 season was the 57th in a row for KTP KTP in the elite class.

With six national championships and nine cup wins KTP is one of the most successful Finnish basketball clubs.
