Lacco Ameno

Lacco Ameno is a town with 8159 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the north- west of the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples. A landmark of the village is a rock of tufa in the port ( Fungo ).

History

From the 8th or 7th century BC dated a Nestor's Cup, which was found in 1954 at the Monte Vico and is now on display in a museum. The former Greek settlement was called Pithekoussai. In 1883 Lacco Ameno was severely damaged by an earthquake; Together with the neighboring Casamicciola Terme the quake victims in 2300.

But the transformation from a fishing village to a resort with hot springs could not stop it. The Italian publisher Rizzoli Angelo made ​​from Lacco Ameno in the 1950s and 1960s, a place for the international jet set. He also donated the only hospital in Ischia " Ospedale Anna Rizzoli ".
