Libertad Department, Chaco

The department Libertad is located in the eastern part of the province of Chaco in the north- western Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the northwest by the Department of General Donovan, on the northeast by the Departamento Primero de Mayo, in the south of the department of San Fernando and west by the Departamento Tapenagá.

The capital of the department of Libertad is Puerto Tirol, one of Nova Tirolern ( Trentinern ) founded colony.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population increased from 10,822 inhabitants (2001) to 10,942 in 2005.
