List of fossil sites
List of important and / or well-known fossil sites. The sites are either to geologic formations or individual find spots.
Geological formations are composed of rocks that were deposited during a certain period of time. Usually they extend over large areas and it may happen that occur simultaneously several important sites in the same formation. In these cases, the references should be listed under the appropriate formation. On the other hand, again for practical reasons many formations studied only at a single point, usually at the type locality.
