Ludowika Jakobsson

Ludowika Antje Margareta Jakobsson, born Eilers ( born July 25, 1884 in Potsdam, † November 1, 1968 in Helsinki) was a German - Finnish figure skater, which was launched in a single run and pair skating.

Ludowika splitter met their Finnish skating partner Walter Jakobsson in 1907 when he studied engineering in Berlin. They married in 1911. Medals, which won the pair at the World Championships in 1910 and 1911, to be counted from the ISU at Nations votes still in half for Germany and the other half for Finland. The couple became world champion in 1911, 1914 and 1923 and Vice World Champion 1910, 1912, 1913 and 1922. At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, where Jakobsson was the only participant who was born in Germany, as German athletes as a result of World War I were excluded, they won in the pair competition with her husband, the gold medal. At the Olympic Games in 1924 in Chamonix, they were Olympic silver medalist behind Helene Engelmann and Alfred Berger. One last time the couple took part in the Olympic Games in 1928, but it was not enough for a medal, they were fifth.

Ludowika Jakobsson -Eilers was also successful in the individual race. At the World Championship 1911 in Vienna, she still competed for Germany and won the bronze medal behind the Hungarians Lily Kronberger and Opika of Méray - Horváth. However, only three athletes were at the start. At the following World Cup they finished seventh and last. It was her last appearance in the individual race at the World Cup. In 1917 she became the first Finnish champion in figure skating ladies. In 1911 she had become the first Finnish Champion in pair skating with Walter Jakobsson what the couple repeated in 1921.

Ludowika and Walter Jakobsson attracted 1916 from Berlin to Helsinki, where Walter as technical director at Kone OY (now Konecranes ), one of the largest manufacturers of cranes worldwide, worked. Ludowika appeared in the twenties in some Finnish silent films.
