Luxottica

Luxottica is the world's largest eyewear manufacturer. The company's headquarters is located in Agordo ( Belluno ). Shares of Luxottica traded on the Milan Stock Exchange and since 1990 also in New York.

Luxottica was founded in 1961 by Milan businessman Leonardo Del Vecchio in Agordo. In the years that settled in the Cadore valley some other glasses manufacturer, which is why the local distretto Industriale is now regarded as an Italian eyewear stronghold.

Luxottica has a number of U.S. companies and brands acquired since 1995, including Ray -Ban from Bausch & Lomb, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut International and Oakley ( 2007 ), 2009 was followed by Oliver Peoples. Early 2013 took over the French eyewear maker Luxottica also Alain Mikli. As of January 2014, luxury group, called Atelier, founded by the brands alain mikli, Oliver Peoples, Mosley Tribes, Paul Smith, starck eyes and Stella McCartney, who is in Paris, the former seat of alain mikli international, level. The purchase was made then in early 2013. The company operates in 130 countries and sells about 30 million glasses per year. The number of employees amounted in 2011 to more than 65,600 worldwide, sales totaled 6.222 billion euros, the net profit was 452 million euros. Company founder Leonardo Del Vecchio is now the second richest person in Italy.
