Mahiedine Mekhissi - Benabbad ( born March 15, 1985 in Reims ) is a French hurdler Algerian descent.
Career
In 2007 he was Under-23 European champion in 3000 -meter steeplechase. At the World Championships in Osaka, he left in the flow.
At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, he won with his personal best time of 8:10,49 min the silver medal, 15 hundredths of a second behind the reigning world champion Kiprop Kipruto Brimin (KEN ) and 12 hundredths of a second ahead of his compatriot Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong. After Mekhissi - Benabbad was excreted in the lead again at the World Championships in Berlin, he was at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona again in the final. In March 2013 he won the gold medal in the 1500 meter run at the Indoor Athletics Championships 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden. In July he performed at the Diamond League meeting in Paris on a new European record over 3000 meter steeplechase in 8:00,09 min.
At the World Championships 2013 in Moscow, Russia Mekhissi - Benabbad ran into 8:07,86 min the bronze medal behind the Kenyans Ezekiel Kemboi and Kipruto Conseslus.
