Marco Hietala

Marko "Marco" Tapani Hietala ( born January 14, 1966 in Tervo, Finland) is a Finnish bassist and singer. In addition to his main band Tarot since 2001 he is member of the band Nightwish and co-founder of the group Northern Kings.

Career

In 1985, together with his brother Zachary Hietala the band Tarot. Towards the end of the century he joined the band Sinergy, with whom he recorded two albums. After he left the band. In addition, he has two years Bass, three years singing and classical guitar and studied music theory, a total of five years; well he has a five-year experience as a sound engineer.

After Sami Vänska Nightwish had to leave, was Marco Hietala 2001, his successor. Since then he takes over the male vocals that were previously mostly taken by guest singers (eg Tapio Wilska or Tony Kakko ). His distinctive voice is the counterweight to the female lead vocals dar. Furthermore Marco is involved in the songwriting, but this is still the main task of founder Tuomas Holopainen.

Marco Hietala also played in the projects Aina, Altaria and Sapattivuosi and sang for the band Delain. He also participates in the project Northern Kings, the covert -known and successful rock songs from the 80s.

Since Tomi Joutsen 2005 came as a singer of the Finnish band Amorphis, produced and arranged Marco Hietala for Amorphis the vocals. On the albums Eclipse, Silent Waters and Skyforger Amorphis it supports also with backing vocals.

Marco Hietala is married and has two sons. He lives in Kuopio, Finland.

Equipment

He uses equipment from the German manufacturer Warwick. Prior to 2007, he mostly played a Warwick Infinity Bass, then (s) he uses mainly a Warwick Vampyre bass. However, in 2011 released music video for the band Nightwish track " Storytime " he reused a Warwick Infinity Bass. Since 2012 he plays the Warwick Custom Shop Buzzard in "Rusty " design.
