Marnand until the merger was to Valbroye on July 1, 2011, a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Marnand is located on 477 m above sea level. M., 8 km south-southwest of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The village is located on the eastern edge of the Broyetals, both sides of the village stream, which also occurs here from one erosion valley in the Broyetal, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.2 km ² large former municipal area comprises a section in the middle Broyetal. The main part of the territory occupied by the flat valley floor of the Broye, taking mostly the railway line forms the western boundary. To the east stretched the communal land in the densely wooded valley of the village stream and the adjacent Molassehöhen. On the plateau of Les Corvets is 601 m above sea level. Population

With 161 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Marnand was one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 92.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 2.8 % and 2.1 % portugiesischsprachig in German (as of 2000). The population of Marnand amounted in 1900 to 248 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 147 persons, the population has since remained stable.

Economy

Marnand until the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, the crop and livestock farming have an important role in the economic structure of the population. History

The place name derives from the French word marne ( marl ). Marnand shelter since the Middle Ages the rule Villarzel, which in turn was owned by the Bishop of Lausanne. Through inheritance was the village since 1511 along with Trey own little rule. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick Moudon. Attractions

The Castle of Marnand is increased slightly north of the village. The manor house with two garden pavilions and an estate in the Bernese style was built in the mid 18th century.
