Maroñas

Maroñas, also referred to by the abstract with Parque Guaraní as Maroñas Parque Guaraní, is a neighborhood ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.

Location

Maroñas belongs to the led by Francisco Fleitas as the elected mayor of the municipality of F. It forms with Parque Guaraní a common district and is located in the eastern part of the department of Montevideo. Will surround this common neighborhood Maroñas Parque Guaraní of the districts Flor de Maroñas (north), Las Canteras ( East), Malvín Norte ( south), Unión (southwest) and Villa Española (west).

History

The settlement of the district in 1834, goes back to Francisca Maroñas. She was the daughter of the Spanish officials Francisco Maroñas, who settled in 1765 in the Banda Oriental.

Description

Its main streets are the Avenida General Flores and Avenida José Belloni. Maroñas houses the Racecourse of Montevideo, the Hipódromo de Maroñas.
