Marratxí

Marratxí is a fast growing community on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca, which belongs to the north-eastern suburban area of the capital, Palma.

With 35 258 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) Marratxí is one of the larger communities of the island. However, it does not have the same capital, but consists of a number of suburban settlements such as Sa Cabaneta, Pòrtol and Pont d' Inca. Is named the community after the small hamlet Marratxinet. In 2007, the proportion of foreigners was 4.48 % ( 1395 people), the proportion of German residents 0.96% (299 people). Besides lived 38 Dutch, 19 Austrians and Swiss 8 in the community. The locals call themselves Marratxiner or Marratxinera.

Marratxí is known for the production of ceramics and the production of dried hot peppers. The municipal area is the aerodrome in Son Bonet, who served as the main airport until the inauguration of the current airport, Son Sant Juan in 1960.
