The McMaster University is a prestigious, medium-sized university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. In 2010, matriculated 22.852 in bachelor degree programs and 3,588 graduate students.

Divisions

McMaster (or "Mac" ) is divided into six faculties:

  • Natural sciences,
  • Medicine,
  • Technology,
  • Humanities,
  • Social sciences
  • Economics.

The campus extends over 1.2 km ² in the neighborhood next to Westdale Hamilton's Royal Botanical Gardens. Part of the University with the McMaster Museum of Art, a private art museum.

Famous people

Many graduates of McMaster are successful actors, including Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Ivan Reitman. There has long been a debate whether the film Animal House was inspired by Reitman's stay at the local dorm Whidden Hall during the student riots in the sixties.

Bertram Brockhouse, 1994 Nobel Laureate in Physics, has researched here, and later writers Matt Cohen taught in the late 1960s here.

Assessment

McMaster is one of the best 100 universities in the world ( in the Times Higher Education Supplement rankings ) and as 80th in the world and third in Canada to the world rankings 2005, the universities by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
