Ménil-Hermei

Menil - Hermei is a commune with 215 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Orne in Basse-Normandie region.

Geography

Menil - Hermei is surrounded by the Norman Switzerland, four kilometers from the lookout Roche d' Oëtre. The municipality borders the department of Calvados. The municipality is crossed by the river Orne over a length of three kilometers, from Baizeron over four kilometers away from the Baize over one kilometer.

History and Culture

Probably in the 13th century, the village was first mentioned under the name Mesnillum Hermei. Another document from this period shows that a nobleman named Guillaume de Bellière donated the site, including the church of Sainte -Marie to the abbey of Falaise. The actual date of incorporation of the town is estimated to be the 10th century.

Between two hills is the Lavoir de Bougard, situated on the old Roman road to Briouze. In the hamlet La Vieville is another Lavoir.
