Mick Staton

David Michael " Mick " Staton ( born February 11, 1940 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia ) is a retired American politician. Between 1981 and 1983 he represented the third electoral district of the state of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Mick Staton attended the public schools of his home including the Parkersburg High School, graduating in 1958. Between 1961 and 1963 he studied at Concord College in Athens ( West Virginia). From 1957 to 1965 he was a member of the reserve of the U.S. Army (United States Army National Guard ). In the following years, Staton worked among others in the data processing. From 1972 to 1980 he was Vice President of the Kanawha Valley Bank in Charleston, the capital of West Virginia.

Politically, Staton joined the Republican Party. Between 1976 and 1980 he was a delegate to the regional party conferences in West Virginia. In 1980, he was also a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Detroit, was nominated to the Ronald Reagan Presidential candidate of the party. In 1978, he ran unsuccessfully for even the U.S. Congress.

Two years later, Staton was elected in the third district of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded the Democrat John G. Hutchinson on January 3, 1981. Since he lost to Bob Wise in the elections of 1982, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1983. After his time in Congress Staton was 1984-1990 political adviser to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Today he lives in Inwood (West Virginia).
