Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, formerly Autodromo di Santa Monica, is a motorsport race track in Misano Adriatico ( RN) in Italy. The track is 4.2 km long.

Currently here including the Grand Prix of San Marino in the World Motorcycle Championship, as well as a round of the Superbike World Championship will be played.

History

The Misano circuit was planned in 1969, put into operation in 1972 and operated exclusively private. Initially, the length of the runway 3.488 km, there was only a very small pits and a few track safety vehicles.

In 1993 the route was extended to 4.060 km, also a new pit building was built with a 600 m² big media center. In the years 1996 and 1997, the pit facilities were enlarged again, later a fixed grandstand is still under construction.

From autumn 2006 to spring 2007, the line was rebuilt again and completely revised. Above all, by reversing the direction of travel ( future clockwise) the run-off areas were expanded and the track safety can be increased to meet the demands of the MotoGP class justice.

After the death of the Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli in Sepang 2011, the track was originally to be renamed to Marco Simoncelli Circuit. Meanwhile, (June 2012) has been renamed the course in Misano World Circuit " Marco Simoncelli ".

Racing events

Find every year since 1991 runs for the Superbike World Championship in Misano place also housed the route 1980-1993 a total of ten times the Grand Prix of Nations as part of the motorcycle world championship.

Since the 2007 season, the Motorcycle World Championship a guest again at Misano and directed the Grand Prix of San Marino. In addition, each year the race truck racing championship and numerous public tours are held on the track.

On September 5, 2010 came during the Moto2 race of the Japanese rider Shoya Tomizawa at an accident.
