Mittweida (district)

The Mittweida from 1994 to 2008, a district in the western center of the Free State of Saxony. Neighboring districts were in the north of the former Muldentalkreis and the county chub, in the northeastern district of Meißen, in the southeast of the former district of Freiberg, in the south of the county-level city of Chemnitz and the district Chemnitz country and Altenburger in the west of the Thuringian Landkreis and the district Leipziger Land.

History and territorial structure

The county was created in 1994 based on the first Saxon district local government reform by the merger of the counties Hainichen, Rochlitz ( except three municipalities) and the northern part of the district of Chemnitz as well as three smaller communities in other circles. 1996 also joined by referendum from the district Leipziger Land the community Obergräfenhain the county of. The following 48 municipalities formed the new Mittweida:

  • The communities Breitenborn and Langensteinbach from among Geithain

On 1 August 2008 was reacted with the district reform in Saxony in 2008 a merger to the district of Central Saxony with the former circles chub and Freiberg.
