History

Mödingen belonged to founded before 1239 Kloster Maria Medingen. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark, whose seat was the monastery until its abolition in 1803. With the congregation of 1818 the current municipality was formed. 1843 the abandoned convent of Franciscan nuns Dillinger was repopulated.

Incorporations

As part of the Bavarian municipal reform joined on 1 May 1978, the formerly independent communities Bergheim and Mödingen with the monastery Maria Medingen to a municipality within the administrative community Wittislingen together. In a vote of the electorate has been set by a narrow margin as the name of the new community, the name " Mödingen ".
